華陽沿革史
　　華陽軍艦，原為美海軍Allen M. Sumner 級驅逐艦，編號DD-857，由美國伯利恆鋼鐵公司建造，一九四五年三月十

七日完工成軍，在美國服役期間，正值二次　世界大戰尾聲，曾駛往日本參加佔領艦隊及韓戰等任務。我國向美國購得該艦　後，於民國五十九年四月二十五日拖返左營，由當時副總司令宋長志中將主持成　軍典禮，命名為「華陽」軍艦。
　　該艦在海軍服役期間，擔任海峽偵巡、外島運補護航、巡弋警戒及各項演訓等任務，為海軍建軍備戰與確保海權，寫下不可磨滅的功勳與輝煌之史蹟，於民國八十三年四月二十五日除役。

　　DDG-903 was the ex-USS Bristol, the Sumner-class destroyer, DD-857, laid down by Bethlehem Steel, San Pedro, CA. May 5, 1944, launched on October 29, 1944 and commissioned on March 17, 1945. DD-857’s service in USN was the end of World War II and had been sailed to Japan for Far Eastern Occupation Duty and participated in Korean War with splendid merits and great achievements.

　　Ex-USS DD-857 was transferred to ROC Navy and commissioned on April 25, 1970 by Vice Admiral Sung, Chang-Chih, the deputy Commander-In-Chief of Navy then. She was renamed as Hwa-Yang with the hull number DD-903.
The mission of DDG-903 was patrolling the Cross-Strait and surrounding waters to convoy offshore-islands-support-and-supply, task flotilla and various missions.
She played an important role on the Navy force built-up and fleet combat readiness, secure the safety of Cross-Strait and Maritime communications.
Finally, the DDG-903 Hwa-Yang was decommissioned on April 25, 1994.

良好根基，隨後經歷幾任艦長認真要求，官兵們的努力，多次獲戰力競賽優勝艦、莒光艦及莒光楷模之榮譽。
　　民國七十九年，個人有幸擔任華陽艦艦長，對艦上工作紀律及訓練，列為要求重點。記得當時總司令葉昌桐上將勖勉艦隊官兵：「訓練是官兵最佳的福利」。的確，華陽官兵均能全力配合，做好裝備保養、人員合格簽證及編裝組合等訓練。保養好，華陽機動性高，訓練好、執行任務有信心，並要求副長古允文中校在不影響戰備服勤的狀況下，安排官兵們輪流休假。
　　每當看到休假官兵集合，實施離營教育，弟兄們歡欣的樣子，我內心產生了同樣的喜悅，這就是最佳的福利之一吧。休假的人漸走遠，華陽離碼頭，又要回到海上馳聘，官兵們稱她為「海上灰狗巴士」。

擔任艦長職務
　

　　“Today, you are proud of DDG-903, Hwa-Yang, and tomorrow, DDG-903 Hwa-Yang will be proud of you.” This is the spirit for all the crews and members of DDG-903. Since the first Commanding Officer, Captain Sung, Chon, DDG-903 had built up great foundation and tradition. Afterwards, with the great leadership of many dedicated Commanding Officers, DDG-903 won “Best ship of the Year” and “Best Prototype of the Armed Forces” awards for several times.

　　It was my honor to take command of DDG-903 in 1990, and I emphasized on the working discipline and training onboard ship. I still remembered that Admiral Yeh, Chang-Tung, the Commander-In-Chief of Navy encouraged all the members of the Fleet the best rewards come from strict training. Indeed, all the officers and crews at DDG-903 devote themselves to the maintenance, PQS and integrated training. 　　　　
　　Those efforts enabled the DDG-903 to have good maintenance, best fighting capabilities, outstanding training and great mobility. We were always confident with any task and mission. I also order the X.O., deputy commander Ku Yun-Wen to arrange the liberty for the crews in turns.
　　Every time, when I saw the crews meet for liberty and receive the liberty announcements, I can feel the same excitement as they are. I think this is one of the best rewards for the crews! When the crews on liberty walk away, it’s time for Hwa-Yang to underway. This is the reason why DDG-903 wins the nickname of “Sea Greyhound!”
